Awareness

Awareness is where change begins to occur. Once community members are aware of an issue, they can take part in shaping appropriate change.

To raise awareness, Promotores bring the ideas of healthy behavior into the heart of their community. Promotores teach; introduce family, friends and neighbors to different health topics; and take knowledge a step further by raising awareness about the rewards and benefits of living a healthy life. One visit, one conversation at a time, Promotores raise awareness and plant the seeds of change. Each Promotor/a completes a minimum of 100 health visits, and little by little, the population becomes more conscious about risks, particular diseases, the need to change certain lifestyles.

By raising awareness, by planting these seeds of change and knowledge, Promotores empower themselves and those around them to become participants, partners and directors of health care in their families and communities.
